What makes Three Llamas Coffee different?

We’re a coffee roastery based in Woodend, North Canterbury, with a love for exceptional Peruvian coffee.

Our values are straightforward: quality beans, a clear connection to their origin, careful storage and fresh weekly roasting.

We care about every step because we want our customers to enjoy a beautiful cup of coffee—and know where it comes from.

Specialty coffee—including our certified organic range

Three Llamas sells specialty coffee. Our certified organic coffees are specialty coffees too.

What does that mean?

Coffee beans are assessed for quality. In one commonly used green-coffee grading system:

  • Grade 1 — Specialty: The highest grade in this system, with the strictest limits on defects.

  • Grade 2 — Premium: A lower grade that allows more defects.

Our Peruvian range uses Grade 1 specialty Arabica beans, selected for their quality and character.

Under the traditional cupping system, specialty coffee must score 80 points or higher out of 100 and meet physical quality requirements. Coffee professionals assess characteristics such as aroma, flavour, sweetness, acidity and balance.

For your audience, keep it simple: carefully selected specialty beans, chosen for distinctive flavour and quality.

Proudly Peruvian. Single-origin coffee.

Our Peruvian coffee comes from Cajamarca, a mountainous region in northern Peru, recognised for its distinctive Arabica coffee.

Our Peruvian range is single-origin: the beans come from Peru, rather than being blended with coffees from different countries.

We’re proud to let the character of that origin shine through. Different roast profiles give customers a choice of flavours while keeping that connection to Peru.

Peruvian beans. New Zealand roasting. A clear story from origin to cup.

When creating content, you can explain where the coffee comes from, try different roasts and describe the flavours you enjoy. Check each product page for its individual origin and tasting information.

Certified organic specialty coffee

For customers who value organic farming, our certified organic specialty range offers an additional reason to choose Three Llamas.

Organic certification relates to how the coffee is produced. Specialty quality relates to the beans and their characteristics. Our certified organic coffees bring both together.

They’re grown under certified organic standards, which restrict synthetic agricultural inputs, and freshly roasted here in Woodend.

Look for products marked certified organic when choosing which coffee to share.

Freshly roasted every week

We roast coffee every week at our Woodend roastery.

This regular schedule keeps fresh roasting at the heart of our business and gives your audience a direct connection to a local team.

It’s a story you can show as well as tell: opening a bag, brewing your morning coffee or sharing the roast you’ve come to love.

Care before the beans reach the roaster

Before roasting, coffee beans are known as green coffee. Looking after them is an important part of maintaining quality.

We purchase a maximum of three months’ supply at a time and store our green coffee in a controlled environment.

Our approach supports careful stock management, regular replenishment and weekly roasting. We choose to give attention to each stage, from sourcing the beans to preparing the coffee customers enjoy at home.

Easy to enjoy, however your audience brews

Customers can choose whole beans or coffee ground for their brewing method when ordering online.

Options include:

  • Espresso

  • Plunger

  • Stovetop

  • Filter

Available options vary by product. Your audience can choose the coffee, bag size and grind that fit their routine.
